The Marlborough Town Council confirmed plans to extend the town cemetery following a council meeting in June 2024. The decision comes in response to increasing demand for burial plots, with current capacity nearing its limit.

According to the council, the extension will provide additional burial spaces and improve access for visitors. The project will be funded through council resources, with work expected to commence later this year. A council spokesperson stated, “This extension is vital for meeting the needs of our community now and in the future.”

The extension will take place at the existing cemetery site on London Road, with contractors appointed to carry out the works. The council has engaged with local stakeholders and residents to ensure minimal disruption during the construction phase.

The Marlborough Town Council has managed the cemetery since its establishment and periodically reviews capacity to ensure adequate provision. The extension project is part of ongoing efforts to maintain essential services for the local population.
